My journey to a spiritual experience begins in the fall of 2015. After almost leaving
this planet forever four times within a year and a half, my good friend Uncle Mick
came to visit me at the hospital, and I asked him the usual question,
“What are you doing here?”
After he left I looked in the mirror and I was yellow all over. It was
then I surrendered for the last time, and as I left the hospital I had a determined
mindset and eagerness to get better. I met my third sponsor (3rd time’s a charm for
me thank God) at a local speaker meeting, I wanted what he had. I asked him for help,
and he agreed. He gave me my first assignment right away.
I did the work just as it is laid out in the big book with a sponsor who did it following
the clear cut directions. I finished my fourth and fifth step and noticed I started to
feel different. My attitude on life began to feel more positive.
I spent an hour alone thinking about everything so far and said the 7th step prayer.
The next day I started my amends and just kept going.
Next, I took a 279 mile roadtrip to do more 9th step work. I visited my brother, sister-in-law,
my father at his gravesite, and my friend named Chris who lived in New Hampshire.
When I returned home I suddenly realized that this process was working and I felt like a
different person! My obsession for booze and other drugs had been lifted!
I also realized the promises were starting to come true.
7 years later I feel grateful to be alive. I also feel blessed to be capable of helping others through this process! My friend Johnny calls me a walking, talking miracle.
I guess I am.
Everyday when I wake up I am thankful, so every morning is like Thanksgiving
and everynight is like Christmas.
